Services
We are all aware that humanity is facing an uncertain future due to the Climate Crisis. Unfortunately, the building industry has a great responsibility in that. Around 38% of global carbon dioxide emissions come from buildings’ whole-life carbon footprint, so my services cluster around this issue in buildings’ different life stages.
Biobased materials - Upfront emission
The high upfront carbon dioxide emission comes from material production and transportation. My mission is to share and use my knowledge to reduce this negative impact by using bio-based materials.
Services provided:
I believe carbon dioxide emissions must be cut presently, and the best way to do it is by introducing fast-growing plant-based materials. I have on-site and design experience with wood-wool and wood-fibre board, cork, cork-lime, limecrete, lime plaster, rammed earth and hempcrete. I also have an excellent understanding of creating airtight construction without losing breathability. As a hempcrete specialist, I can give rational and fact-based advice for designing and constructing hemp-lime composite material.
If you are an individual interested in using bio-based materials for your future home, you are keen to know more about the health benefits; you are a professional looking for advice on what the best available materials and details are for your design or willing to collaborate or need a quotation, don’t hesitate to hit the contact button.
Hands-on workshops, lectures, webinars
I believe that the building and construction industry can only achieve much-needed changes if knowledge flows. Educating the next generation of professionals is one of the foundational cornerstones for achieving a transformed industry.
I specialise in low-impact building materials and offer engaging guest lectures and practical, hands-on workshops designed specifically for architecture students and working professionals. I offer practical insights and hands-on experience with materials such as straw, hemp, and earth that can enrich your students' learning. My sessions cover both theory and application, bridging the gap between design concepts and sustainable construction realities.
All of my workshops and webinars could be tailored to different audiences and learning goals.
I offer workshops from 3 hours to one or 2 days in length, one-hour guest webinars and lecture series.
Services provided:
If you are looking to integrate both theoretical understanding and practical skills related to sustainable materials for contemporary architectural education or in your architectural practice, don’t hesitate to contact me.
Content creation and visualisation
Designing and building with bio-based building materials requires different knowledge than mainstream materials.
The lack of visual representation makes understanding buildability and spatial relations challenging. A good teaching material, installation guide, technical data sheet or clear visual project presentation provides clear information about the materials’ types and properties and how they should be installed to avoid improper use on-site or inconsistent performance. Lack of information creates misjudgment and uncertainty, often discouraging professionals from trying new material.
I understand the importance and the role of visual and written information that can be provided in the early design stage to architects, contractors and self-builders or offered for educational services. I am an experienced user of AutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit and Vray.
Services provided:
If you are a material supplier, biobased material producer, or any other professional from the Construction Industry looking for help creating 3D images for advertising, writing content for educational materials, or providing installation guides, don’t hesitate to hit the contact button.
Passive Solar and Passive House Design - Operational emission
The high emissions are the operational carbon dioxide footprint produced by the energy usage during the day-to-day activities of running and using a building.
Services provided:
such as Target-matched U-value,
Transmission heat loss calculations or
Linear loss calculations
Calculations and simulations related to moisture (WUFI, Glaser)
Passive House Design with PHPP software
One of the solutions to reducing operational energy usage is to implement the Passive House Design principles. This building physics-based holistic design approach focuses on improved energy performance with thermal-bridge-free, detailed design, especially with orientation, highly insulated structures and services, airtightness and Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery.
I am a Certified Passive House Designer and, due to my studies, can also interlink biobased materials with the Passive House standards and create an environmentally conscious design approach.
If you are an individual interested in improving the energy performance and reducing the energy bills of your future or existing home, you are keen to know more about the Passive House design process, or you are a professional with an existing design, but you want to run through on the PHPP software or looking for collaboration or need a quotation, don’t hesitate to hit the contact button.
Refurbishment, Retrofit, Repair, Replacement - Emission from maintenance
The high emissions are maintaining existing buildings, replacing elements at the end of their life, or improving the performance of the building envelope.
Services provided:
Existing buildings already have a carbon footprint, so the most significant challenges are to maximise their lifespan and durability and increase their efficiency. I am aware of the importance of understanding and respecting the existing structure. I believe every existing building is unique, so they need custom-made solutions.
I prepare my design proposals by understanding the complex connection between heat, moisture and air and their impacts on the building and the occupants. I can also confidently compare new-generation materials with bio-based ones and make an assured decision about the best possible solution.
If you are an individual interested in improving the energy performance and reducing the energy bills of your existing home, or you are a professional with a current design, but you want to have a second opinion, or you need advice about using bio-based materials in retrofit or refurbishment projects or looking for collaboration don’t hesitate to hit the contact button.
